In order to be able to take advantage of this innovative method of weight loss is to first check you are eligible to begin taking them. Due to some of the side effects which can come from diet pills and the nature in which they are for, they are simply not available to just anyone. For example, those who are looking to shed a mere few pounds are not deemed as eligible for weight loss medication as it is not a medication which is used for vanity reasons, but to save lives. These medications will be prescribed only to those who are deemed to be clinically obese which is determined by measuring their BMI (body mass index). However, those who suffer from specific disorders as a result of their weight may also be eligible to take these medications.
Step Two:
Prescription diet pills offer great benefits such as weight loss which can improve the patients overall health, but it is important that the patient understand what is expected of he/she during this time. Weight loss will not happen by simply taking a few pills and should they feel that the patient will not do any work on their side; a Doctor may refuse to prescribe this medication. A new diet and gently exercise plan must be adopted and followed in order to help promote the weight loss further, as well as improve the overall health of the body for example the heart and lungs.
Step Three:
Next, you should be aware of the risks which can come from medications such as these. All medications can come with side effects but these risks will be determined by which medications you are taking. Your doctor will do their best to provide you with a medication which has a lower percentage of side effects, but in most cases these will include stomach cramps and diarrhea. Should a side effect become too much, it is imperative that you visit your Doctor as soon as possible.
Step Four:
Finally, be aware of the other medications which are available to you. Doctors will prescribe medications which are FDA approved but your Doctor may also be aware of other medications which are not FDA approved, but are still safe to use. In most cases, these are not made specifically to help aid in weight loss but rather are for a different condition which has a side effect of weight loss. These will work by decreasing your appetite and helping burn off the fat within your body, but this will often be prescribed to you as a last resort should you not find success with another prescription.
